The good news is Oxford Street, Darlinghurst is starting to feel like it’s old self again, pre-lockouts. And with that in mind we are moving things up and beginning our Darlo evenings at new-comer The Cat's Meow for our pre-dining walk cocktail spot!
Formerly the home of Embers restaurant - which we also frequented and are still mourning the loss of their char-grilled cauliflower & pomegranate salad -TCM is in a fabulous curved, sandstone building on the corner of Little Riley & Oxford Streets.
Still owned by Henri Azzi, who ran Embers, this amazing interior harping back to the roaring 1920's, was created by Angus Henderson of Henderson & Co and took a year to complete. Henderson’s were charged with designing the space which includes Art Deco motifs, sumptuous blue velvet chairs, green marble tables and plenty of brass. It's all very moody without the darkness of being below ground, as with other bars of this style.
The menu too, is a nod to Gatsby times without veering into themed territory. Designed by ex-Quay chef Camille Saint-M'leux, the bar snacks are sufficient enough to be a meal, should you want to settle in for the evening.
Made for sharing, there's fresh oysters sourced from Bateman's Bay, Hawkesbury River and Rossmore crudités with light-as-air chickpea foam in place of hummus, a cheese plate featuring the best of Australian and International produce (eaten in a clockwise fashion, from mildest to strongest, to experience the full flavours of each) and the highlight dish of the evening, the croque-monsieur with truffle béchamel. You really want to try this dish - a perfect late-night treat!
We are looking forward to introducing our guests to this sophisticated space before embarking on our Darlinghurst dining walk.

Our newest addition to our Darlinghurst Dining Tour is Fortuna restaurant, located on the Darlo end of Victoria Street. Modern and stylish this dining room offers a unique and contemporary experience. The interior is elegant and sophisticated, featuring a fresh minimalist design with black and white décor, sleek furniture, and a beautiful lighting scheme that creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. Featuring street art and by-fold windows, opening out onto the street. Ideal on a hot summers evening for great people watching opportunities and soaking-up the laid-back Sydney vibe.
Our latest dining discovery, Dead Ringer, is on leafy Bourke Street in the heart of Surry Hills. Housed in a grand terrace house, with handsome wood joinery & leather upholstery, the two-sided dining room frames an equally handsome bar. The team has a genuine love of good hospitality and food paired with classy cocktails. We describe Dead Ringer to our guests as ‘a restaurant with a well-stocked bar’.
We have a new player onboard for our Darlinghurst dining tours: introducing Bar Nina on the corner of Crown & Stanley Streets. Right smack in the middle of East Sydney the restaurant opened in April 2021 - mere months before Lockdown 2.0 kicked-in. We had intentions of popping-down to check-out the menu and vibe but Rona got in the way. So it was lovely to finally go there recently for a Saturday afternoon rose & oysters and discover that yes this is a place we definitely want to bring our guests!
We are thrilled to announce that we are now including hot new comer Ezra on our Potts Point dining walk route. So far the Baklava ice cream for the dessert course, accompanied by a stunning Gilbert late harvest Reisling, Orange NSW, has been a big hit with our local guests.

1930s Kings Cross Sydney is resurrected through the atmosphere, style, flavours and culture of Dulcie's Kings Cross. The subterranean space was once a popular strip club by the name of Strip- a-rama. You can view the old club neon lights in the bathrooms.
Brix is Sydney’s only dedicated craft rum distillery and bar situated on leafy Bourke Street in the heart of Surry Hills. Through a combined distillery, cellar door and hospitality space, Brix introduces the public to an experience that is as informative and enlightening as it is inspiring and delightful.
Located on the once notorious Kellett Street, on the Kings Cross side off Darlinghurst Road, this small bistro feels cosy but sophisticated. Owner / Operator Mauro Forgillo - originally from Milan - wore all the hats to get his first restaurant open - from painting the chairs to writing the blackboard. A far cry from the busy & swanky evirons of Rockpool, Merivale and Fratelli Fresh.
Bang Tang is situated mid-way down the lovely tree-lined Victoria Street, opposite the back-packer hostels that are fast reverting to their original residential mansion status, as the gentrification of the area continues. With half of the restaurant floor space dedicated to alfresco dining it’s a very pleasant place to spend a beautiful summers evening in Sydney.
