Our newest addition to our Darlinghurst Dining Tour is Fortuna restaurant, located on the Darlo end of Victoria Street. Modern and stylish this dining room offers a unique and contemporary experience.
The interior is elegant and sophisticated, featuring a fresh, minimalist design with black and white décor, sleek furniture, and a beautiful lighting scheme that creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. Featuring street art and by-fold windows, opening out onto the street. Ideal on a hot summers evening for great people watching opportunities and soaking-up the laid-back inner city Sydney vibe.
The cuisine at Fortuna restaurant is influenced by both Italian and Australian culinary traditions, offering a fusion of flavors and ingredients. The menu features a range of dishes made with fresh, locally sourced produce, including handmade pastas, seafood, and meat dishes. We will be enjoying entrees - including Burrata, seafood crudo and salumi - at this corner side location, the site of many a fabulous hospitality venue over the years.
In Roman religion, Fortuna was the goddess of chance who became identified with the Greek Tyche who was the presiding tutelary deity who governed the fortune and prosperity of a city and its destiny. The original Italian deity was regarded as the bearer of prosperity.
As such she resembles a fertility deity, hence her association with the bounty of the soil and the fruitfulness of women. Frequently she was an oracular goddess consulted in various ways regarding the future. Fortuna was worshiped extensively in Italy from the earliest times. So a good name for an Italian restaurant staffed by many women!
This part of the precinct went through a particularly difficult time during the lockdowns, with a few local favourites moving onto other inner city premises due to high rents and other mitigating factors. We are thrilled to observe it’s rejuvenation with Fortuna, Bella and Eat Fuh opening and thriving in 2022 - 2023.
