It’s time to change-it-up in time for summer by adding Vermuteria - a modern day homage to old-school European wine and aperitivo bars - to our Potts Point Dining Tour repertoire.

The bar is part of the growing Spanton Hospitality Group, the same team behind the revival of iconic Sydney institution Piccolo Bar situated just around the corner in the Roslyn Quarter of Potts Point. Which makes it an easy call for Micheal Drescher, General Manager (formerly of Bartolo) when it comes to managing the two bars on a busy night.

The warm, red neon lite room is located on the former site of Cafe Hernandez, a 24-hour Spanish Cafe that lived at the site for 50 years, on the lower half of Kings Cross Road. Vermuteria honours its predecessor with a focus on all things Spanish – predominately sherry and vermouth. Two house blends of the latter are poured directly from barrels behind the bar, where you can also grab ice-cold Estrella Damm beer on tap. There’s always a lively vibe in the air when we pop-by with slick, well-trained service from the bar men & women on the floor. The bright red outdoor dining tables have added to the buzz on arrival and will be super popular in summer.

The site was also once home to a Polish deli up until 1970, so its fitting that there's a small Euro-style deli lining the walls of the back bar. Tempting you into purchasing one of those rare sherries or vermouth’s for the home bar. Plus a great selection of Vermuteria merch, pickles, vinegar, bar-tending books and more. The deli vibe carries over to the bar menu. Think tinned seafood, cold cuts by LP’s Quality Meats and cheeses by local cheesemonger Penny’s Cheese Shop.

We are looking forward to introducing our guests to the history of this room and Kings Cross, whilst imbibing in a Vermuttino, Whiskey & Apple or an Americano cocktail accompanied by a mezze plate of Gildas, fresh Jamon, marinated olives and bread sticks. Hola Vermuteria!
