A Date with Mabel

A Date With Mabel is a beautiful fashion & lifestyle boutique located in bustling Potts Point, with international and Australian designer clothing and a carefully curated collection of stunning accessories for a casual lifestyle.

The family-run store is owned and operated by mother and daughter team, Emma and Natalie. The family originates from Kurrajong, near Bilpin in the Blue Mountains. The shop takes its name from Natalie’s four year-old granddaughter, Mabel. Mabel and her Aunt, Emma, both live locally in Potts Point.

Specialising in lifestyle and fashion accessories for locals and visitors who are living a high-lifestyle in the hum and thrum of our chic urban environment. Situated on the corner of Llankelly Place and Darlinghurst Road, Mabel stock women’s clothing brands such as the Bondi based label Andrea and Joen and Melbourne’s beautifully crafted Elk jewellery & clothing label and minimalist label Nique. The style is free-flowing, easy on the eye, and ideal for our climate, mainly showcasing clothing in soft linens, fine wools and cotton.

Accessories include open weave, leather-soled sandals from Gaia Soul of Byron Bay, men’s and women’s sunglasses, traveling manicure sets, bangles and jewellery in Stirling silver, stylish Ecuadorian hats, embossed leather items by Nancy Bird from Melbourne and sophisticated straw hats from Japan by Grosgrain. They even have designer garden tools from London’s V & A Museum.

The store is packed with other niche items for the urban flanneur, such as sporks, and fun velveteen joggers and bold print and pastel cushions.

Natalie and Emma choose items based on colour, fabric quality and cut and their sense of joie de vivre.

Small’s Deli

Small’s Deli have a passion for quality ingredients and try to keep things as local and sustainable as possible.

Designer Emily Van Loon and chef Ben Shemesh (ex-Dear Sainte Eloise) were on a summer holiday in Bologna, Italy, when they first came up with the idea of running their own sandwich shop. The couple envisioned a friendly, European-inspired spot, where they’d build sandwiches and make coffee in between chatting with regulars.

Small’s Deli opened in early March on leafy Victoria Street in Potts Point, and already feels like it’s part of the neighbourhood. Every day, locals’ queue for baguettes, paninis and sourdough sandwiches, made to order and packed with fresh ingredients, including house-made pickles, free-range salami and slowly ripened cheeses.

Small’s is open for breakfast with a menu of delicious brekkie sandwiches, pastries and Reuben Hills coffee. Lunch is served from 11am onwards with one of the of most popular menu items being the Florence and the Aubergine, filled with finocchiona (a Tuscan salami infused with pepper), walnut paste, creamed pecorino cheese, eggplant and rocket on panini. It takes its name from the English indie rock band, and its filling is inspired by the most popular menu item at legendary Florence sandwich shop All’antico Vinaio, the Favolosa.

Van Loon’s design background is on show around the store, from the grid paper that wraps the sandwiches, to the cool branding. The couple have made the most of the pint-sized interior (which, for the past 15 years, was home to the Mere Catherine French restaurant), with the help of Sona Studio.

The space has a distinctly Euro feel with jars of house-made jams, syrups and preserves line the shelves; garlic braids hang from the walls; and a suspended fridge displays meats and cheeses, ready for slicing.
