Cinematic Bites

Cinematic Bites

As we head into the coolness of autumn, it’s time to snuggle up and rewatch some of our old cinema favourites. Back in the ’90s, when we first started going to the Auckland International Film Festival, there was a string of films centred around the rituals and culture of food. From austere coastal villages in Denmark to high society in New York across the North Atlantic. Hungry - excuse the pun - for knowledge of how other people lived in different time periods and stories woven around food culture we couldn’t get enough of cinema with a bite.

We have always been mad-keen fans of Bar Sopra, since the venue first opened in the heart of Potts Point in October 2020. Pumping on summer nights when al fresco dining is encouraged. There’s a Spanish theme running through the menu of seafood, meat and vegetarian tapas, cheese and charcuterie boards.

Brown Paper Wine

Brown Paper Wine

Brown Paper Wine is the creation of Richard Powell, his mates call him all sorts of names: Richie, Dick, and many more colourful monikers. We first met when he supplied wines for a Surry Hills Creative Precinct function we attended a year ago. His passion and joy in introducing people to good wine was evident from the moment he poured us a glass.

Bang Tang is situated mid-way down the lovely tree-lined Victoria Street, opposite the back-packer hostels that are fast reverting to their original residential mansion status, as the gentrification of the area continues. With half of the restaurant floor space dedicated to alfresco dining it’s a very pleasant place to spend a beautiful summers evening in Sydney.
